First, we went out to collect some sticks. Then, we painted our sticks with Kwik Stix since they dry faster than normal tempera paint.
Then, we grabbed our origami paper and decorated sheets with Sharpies, Kwik Stix paints, and chalk markers.
Then, we accordion folded the sheets of paper.
Then, we folded them in half, stapled them together, and cut the ends to resemble butterfly wings.
Soon we had a whole fluttering colony of butterflies!
I tied them to a stick so that my son now had a fun toy to play with too.
(We placed ours in front of a fan and watched our butterflies go crazy!)
Pretty, aren't they?
I hope you have a fun time making these artsy origami butterfly stick toys. If you're also a butterfly craft lover, you could also make some Giant Fluttering Butterflies, Hyper-colorful Paper Plate Butterflies, or Adorable Monarch Butterfly Notebooks.
