Here are the materials you'll need to do this activity:
- Sheets of colorful paper (We just used blue cardstock, black star folding paper, and origami paper)
- Glue Stick
- Markers (Kid ones and black Sharpies)
- Scissors
1. First, we cut the origami paper into rectangles. Then, we decorated them.
2. Next, we accordion folded the rectangles.
3. We used a glue stick to attach the tops and bottoms (strips of black star folding paper) to our lanterns.
4. Then, we glued our lanterns onto a sheet of paper. (We also added strips to be the "strings.")
5. Then, we drew on extra details like the sparkles and the characters.
(Random question for those of you who read Chinese- I always thought that Chinese was read from right to left. But when I looked up "Happy Chinese New Year" images, it was written left to right. So we wrote it this way too. But I have a feeling the characters may be backwards. What do you think?)
Ok! And of course, here are a list of our favorite Chinese New Years Kids crafts!
