Lately Chuck's been interested in learning about his body, so this topic was right up our alley. Since we have out-of-town guests staying with us for a bit, I designed 5 low-prep and easy activities to help Chuck learn about the brain!
Preschool Science: Let's Learn about our brain!

Here are the things that I really wanted Chuck to learn...
- The brain is located in your head
- The brain is like the "boss," it controls the rest of your body
- The brain feels kinda squishy
- Identify and match the upper case and lower case letters in the word brain
1. Create a brain headband
I made a headband for him to wear over his head. I did this to help him remember that the brain was in his head. (Plus, kids just look so darn cute with headbands on.)
2. Play "Brain says"
While wearing his brain headband, we played "brain says." This was a modified version of "Simon says." Instead of saying Simon, we said "brain."
3. Play "Find the brain"
4. Match the upper case and lower case letters of brain
Then, to practice our letters, we matched up upper case and lower case letters in the word "brain."
5. Perform brain surgery
I poured jello into two small bowls and hid capital and lower case letters in them. I did things on the cheap, so my letters were just made from milk jugs. (By the way, I just used bowls, but it would have been cool to use a real brain jello mold!) Then, I let my bowls sit overnight. Chuck then used chopsticks to perform brain surgery and dig out the letters.
Hope you have fun trying out some of these activities with your kids! (And if you liked these activities, try out this bone dig activity!)
