Well, now that we've removed all the Halloween decorations (sob, sob) my son and I are starting to decorate our home for Thanksgiving and Christmas. While I've yet to find a good kids' Turkey craft that I like, I can always count on snowflakes to tide us creatively over while I keep looking.
Today's twirly whirly paper snowflake mobile is just such an easy and fun craft. We made ours ona whim one night together before bed. Don't you just adore it? You get to make snowflakes AND watch them "fall" from a cute cloud.
(Hmm, I bet you could easily incorporate some STEAM lessons with this art activity as well!)

Materials Needed to Make Snowflake Mobile
- Bright colored paper
- White paper
- Scissors
- Glue Stick (White glue will be too messy. Glue sticks are definitely the way to go!)
- Pen
- String
- Hole Puncher (This one is great!)

Let's Make a Snowy Paper Mobile!
1. Cut out a large blue circle. Then, cut it into a spiral shape so it dangles like this:
2. Cut out snowflakes and then glue them on.
Tips:
A. Your snowflakes don't have to entirely fit on the blue spiral. But when you do glue them on, make sure you only glue on a portion of the snowflake and not the whole thing. You need to make sure the spiral still can dangle!
B. Here's a fun alternative- Instead of gluing the snowflakes on, why not try dangling them off the blue spiral? You can hole punch through the spiral and then tie on snowflakes so that they appear to be really "falling."
C. Here's another alternative- Try sticking snowflakes on the top AND bottom of the spiral. I noticed that we couldn't see as many of the snowflakes when we hung the mobile up. That's because I only could see the bottom of the mobile. It would have been nicer to glue some snowflakes on the bottom too.
3. Use a hole punch to punch through other portions. This adds a lacy touch!
4. Hole Punch the middle of your spiral and then fold it up.
5. Cut out a piece of string and tie it through the middle hole. Then, cut and glue on a little cloud.
Tip:
A. Use a piece of thicker white paper to make the cloud. Otherwise you'll see your blue spiral through the cloud. (I didn't really care, but if you do, then white cardstock would probably work better than the computer paper that I used.)
And then hang up your mobile somewhere fun!
