Tired of bouncing off the walls one night, our family tried our hands at making these nifty 3D Card Sculptures. They came out pretty cool and I thought I'd share them today with you!
Let's Make Beautiful 3D Card Sculptures
So I totally cannot take credit for the design of this project at all. I was in my crazed-mom-"gotta-find-something-to-do-with-the-kiddos-before-we-destroy-the-house" phase and I happened upon this awesome tutorial and template to make platonic solids from playing cards. Bingo. It was a life-saver. We just printed the templates out and used them cut slits into our playing cards.
(Our playing cards were also smaller than the templates, so we just trimmed the template to match our cards.)
Then, we slid the cards together using the slits. My son came up with this shape over here:
And I made this particularly lovely octahedron.
(Is it just me, or does this card sculpture make you swoon slightly? It's so pretty and I felt fairly accomplished after making it.)
I hope that you have fun trying this activity out with your kids too.
