How to Fold Origami Snails
To do this craft, you'll need:
- Origami paper
- Scissors
- Special note for the origami purists: My eldest has already informed me that real origami doesn't use scissors. (He is a stickler for rules, so I get it.) But I'm still labeling the craft as origami because we're just making one teensy-weensy cut.
- Sharpie markers (Or really, use any markers. I just like Sharpies because they make nice, clean, bold lines. Plus, they don't smear on Origami paper. Sometimes our normal kid-friendly markers do that.)
Let's Make Some Snails!
1. Grab a sheet of paper. Place it white side up and fold it into fourths. (So fold it in half and then in half again to create four mini squares.)2. Unfold your paper so that you just have the creases. (Sorry, I know the folds are faint in the photo, but trust me. They're there!)
3. Fold up two corners to meet in the middle. (Use the creases made in step 1 to guide your folding.)
4. Flip the origami over, so that the colorful side is now facing up. (It should look like a house with a pointy roof.)
5. Fold up the other two corners to meet in the middle.
6. Now fold your origami in half so that you see a solid color triangle on top. (If your paper is oriented like mine, fold the bottom behind of the colorful triangle.)
7. Now fold your left and right bottom corners up. (These will make the face and tail.)
8. Now fold your top corner down. (This will make your shell curved.)
9. Make a tiny cut on your head side.
10. Fold down your two pieces to create the snail's eyes.
11. Grab your markers and decorate! Go wild!
Yay! You're all done.
