Ready to make "Basket" Wall Art too?
Instead of using baskets, I found some similarly shaped black and white placemats at the thrift store. (Alternatively, you could also just buy woven placemats here.)
When I brought them home, I wiped down any stains.
Then, I blocked out designs using masking tape and wrapping paper.
For the sun design, I traced the mat onto a piece of wrapping paper. After cutting the circle out, I folded it like a snowflake and cut out triangles. When I unfolded the circle I had a symmetric design. I taped down the "stencil" and then traced it with Sharpie.
Then, I used craft paint and painted the sun design on.
With the other masking tape designs, I just painted between the strips of tape.
Because the placemat was bumpy, some of the lines weren't completely straight. (Looking back, I could have pressed the tape down firmer to help.)
(Note: I ripped off the tape when the paint was still wet so I could add on and fix my designs.)
I wasn't completely thrilled with my designs, so I freehanded the rest.
The paint dried in a couple of hours.
Then, I used Command Picture Hanging Strips to hang my wall art.
And that's it!
Stay cozy and happy making, friends!
