How to Make a Sculpey Clay Fairy Door

Do your kids love fairy crafts? My preschooler loves the idea of tiny magical people. And since we always have Sculpey clay lying around, I made him a very small clay fairy door. Isn't it sweet? It's now sitting at the base of our stairs and I love the idea of opening it to visit another tiny enchanted world!

We love Sculpey Clay so much! It's easy to manipulate, the colors are bright and cheery, and you get a great sense of accomplishment at the end when you hold your tiny sculptures.

Materials Needed:

Here's how I made this Sculpey clay fairy door!

1. I mixed up brown, peach, and white to create a marbled effect. Then, I flattened out the clay on our table and used a plastic knife to cut out a door shape. I smoothed the edges with my finger. Then, I used a toothpick to draw vertical lines (to create wood beams) + traced out a heart shape. I then used the toothpick to pick the heart shape out.

2. Once I finished my door, I carefully placed it on a baking pan lined with aluminum foil. (I usually do this because we still use the baking dish to bake real food.) Then, I proceeded to add all my other bits (like grey rocks, green stems, grey steps, and tiny pink flowers) onto the clay resting on the baking pan. By building my door directly onto the pan, I didn't have to worry about moving my fragile creation later.

To add more interest, I made sure to mix different colors together to create a marbled effect. The more colors, the merrier!

(And as you can see, my preschooler created alongside me. He had a blast making these tiny monsters. Aren't they so colorful and adorable?)

Once we baked the door, we adhered it to our wall using velcro strips. Super easy and super cute!

Couldn't you imagine making other tiny doors for different holidays? Ooh, wouldn't a Halloween one or a Christmas one be super fun?
