This week the preschoolers and I made these adorable paper plate pumpkins for Thanksgiving. This was such a fun and easy craft to put together- very little prep and a whole lot of great discussion about the things that we're grateful for this year. If you're looking for an easy and sweet Thanksgiving craft to do with young kids, this is it!
Paper Plate Thanksgiving Pumpkins (A fun Preschool craft!)
Materials:
- Paper plates
- White paper circles (cut smaller than paper plate)
- Markers
- Pipe Cleaners (We chose brown, but green would be lovely too!)
- Stapler
- Brown and green construction paper (cut into stems and leaves)
- Lots of tape ( Little kids love tape. It's a fact that I've learned to embrace)
- Tempera paint (We chose yellow and orange)
- Paint Brushes
Let's Make some Sweet Thanksgiving Pumpkins!
1. Paint your plates. Let them dry.
2. While you're waiting for your paint dry, have your children list the things they're thankful for and write the list on your leaves. Also, write "I'm thankful for" on the stem.
3. Ask your child to choose one thing they're thankful for and draw a picture on the white circle.
4. Twist the pipe cleaner around a pencil. (We showed the kids how to do this and they enjoyed it.)
5. Once your pumpkin dries, staple on your stem. Then, let kids use tape to attach the leaves and vine.
6. Staple or tape their drawing to the center of the pumpkin. (Glue stick would work great too.)
Voila! You're all set. I hope you enjoy making this craft with the kiddos.
