Does your child enjoy tinkering and building? Why not try making this recycled hovercraft? All you need are a few items from around the house, and you've got yourself a fun, family STEM project. Directions below! (Watch a video of the hovercraft flying on my IG account.)
How to Make a DIY Recycled CD Hovercraft Toy With Kids
Materials Needed:
- Hot Glue Gun
- CD
- Milk Jug Cap
- Dry Erase Marker Cap
- Balloon
- Something pokey (Drill? Pencil?)
Directions:
1. Drill a hole through the top of your dry erase marker cap and another through the center of your milk jug cap. These holes will allow the air from the balloon to slowly leak out.
2. Hot glue your milk jug cap over the hole in the CD. Then, hot glue your dry erase marker cap on top of your milk jug cap. (Because the dry erase marker cap is narrow, it's easier to secure the balloon over it.)

4. Carefully attach your balloon to your hovercraft toy and watch it float. Smooth, bump-free surfaces work best-- and a gentle push will really send it gliding.
