Creating Vision Boards with Kids

Have you heard of vision boards? They're collages that you make using words and pictures to help you envision what you'd like to happen in your life. Often time we'll talk to our kids about new year's resolutions, but honestly, we all forget what our resolutions are by February.

Two mom friends told me about making vision boards this year and I thought it would be a fun activity for our family to try out. The nicest part about this is that it involves cutting and gluing (which everyone seems to enjoy), and you get to chat with the kids about the fun pictures and words that you cut out. An added bonus? You end up with a lovely visual reminder to hang up. Ours are currently sitting in our crafting room. We'll see if they help us out this year!

Materials Needed to create Vision Boards

  • Poster board (or Cardstock, any stiff paper will do)
  • Magazines (the more, the better! Grab free ones from friends)
  • Scissors
  • Glue (We used white glue and it came out a bit wrinkly. Next time we'll try glue sticks or Mod Podge.)
  • Optional: Tape

How to Craft Vision Boards:

  • Tell your kids to cut out pictures or words that speak to them about things they want to do or how they want to grow this year. What do they dream about happening? Who would they like to be? What would they like to do? (My youngest had dreams of eating lots of different types of food. Hee hee.) How would they like to grow?
  • Glue your words and images to your cardstock (If you're like me, you place the pictures first onto the cardstock and move them around until you like their placement before gluing them on. If you're like my kids, you just glue or tape however you want.)
  • Hang up your vison boards and enjoy.
