Build a Funicular Train

Did you know there were such things as funicular trains?  I learned about them from a train book that my son and I read together.  Apparently these trains are used to move people up and down steep cliffs. Two cars are attached via a cable and one car moves up the mountain as another moves down.  Now of course, you know me.... I just had to try making a funicular train for our lego minifigures.... especially after we enjoyed playing with our cardboard conveyor belt so much!

Let's Build a Funicular Train!

how to build a funicular train with kids- great transportation craft and activity for train lovers!

Australia Photos (Part 1)

Yikes!  I just realized that I hadn't posted any photos from our trip oversees.   (Hubby's from Australia and we recently flew there to visit family.)  Some of you were so keen on seeing them, so here are some highlights from our trip.  We had a really jam packed schedule, so we were able to travel all over.  First stop- The Beautiful Gold Coast!

(Special thanks to hubby and my sister-in-law for taking some of these photos!)

Pops takes Chuck to meet the ocean for the first time.

His reaction^^  Yup.  Apparently he isn't a big fan of the water and waves. Sand is much more his thing.

Our beautiful Gold Coast view  (Don't all the buildings look super modern?)

Nanna hanging out with her two favorite grandkids

One of the few rare shots where both boys are facing the camera. (I swear, kids at this age are just super squirmy.  Photographing two clear faces?  Fuggettaboutit!)

Sharks are so cool... and super scary looking.  Eeek.

Loved touching the starfish- these felt like lovely, bumpy rocks

Hee hee... Chuck loved feeding his cousin hot dogs.

Hubby holding the two cousins.  (Aren't their identical penguin hats adorable?  Sadly we lost them somewhere in Australia... Boo.)

And that's it for now.  I'll upload the rest next week.  ( But if you can't wait that long, you can always check out my Instagram feed for a couple more.)

Have a great weekend!

Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire

And finally, our trip to Lancaster was made fully complete with a visit to the nearby Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire.

That's right... I finally got a chance to wear my flower crown!

All hail the Queen!

The amazing Gandolf the White

This little guy was locked up in pirate's prison.  The crime?  Being too darn cute.

Two little kids (in full protective gear), trying to pop the balloons attached to the other

Headless knight

Not sure why, but Chuck was infatuated with this giant Pumpkin man

Here he is standing at the foot of the giant pumpkin statue
 Happy Tuesday!

Trip to Lancaster

We just got back yesterday from our trip to visit hubby in Pennsylvania. He's been down there for work so we thought we'd hang out with him and enjoy the scenery.

Here are some photos from downtown Lancaster:

Lancaster's Central Market was hustling, bustling, and full of yummy foods!

Then, we visited Cherry Crest Adventure Farm.  It was amazing because there were tons of fun activities to do and lots of yummy baked goods and apple cider to sample. (I wish we lived closer so that we could go back....)

Chuck loved riding the "choo choo" wagon ride!

Yummy freshly roasted corn

My first whoopie pie (Apparently these sweet treats originated from Lancaster county.  Legend has it that children yelled "Whoopie!" when they found these baked treats in their lunch pails.)

Day at the farm from Pink Stripey Socks on Vimeo.

I had to stop and admire the beautiful view.  It's so different from the one at home.

We ended the night by warming ourselves around the bonfire.   It felt like a perfect Fall day.

Trip to Baltimore

Hi everyone!  How was your weekend?  (Good, I hope!)

This past weekend I left hubby and Chuck to fend for themselves (eek!).  I had a mini adventure and rode the bus to visit a friend in Baltimore.  We met there while we were both college students.  I guess our goofy personalities just clicked because we're still friends ten years later.  Here are some photos from our Baltimore adventure...

Fried green tomato, avocado, egg, bacon, and cheese on pumpernickel bread... yum!

What's up Chuck?

Hi friends!

How was your weekend?  Good, I hope.

After our previous week of activities, we mostly stayed around our neighborhood and took things easy.  But on Saturday night the traveling bug bit us full force.  We just had to go out.  So, we hopped aboard a bus and took an impromptu trip into the city.

It was Chuck's first time seeing Times Square and Toys-R-Us.  I think he was quite dazzled by all the lights and hubbub.

Bright lights... big city...

I kept waiting for this guy to move... but he never did.

Ack! Humongous dinosaur in Toys-R-Us.  Hrmm... I wonder if was lifesize?

Can you believe this Green Hulk is made out of Lego?

Whoa.  They have a ferris wheel inside of the store!

Here we are riding the ferris wheel.  (Tee hee hee. Chuck's eyes are as big as saucers from seeing all the sights.)

Peeking out of car

Happy Monday!

Adventures in Brooklyn

Last weekend we visited Brooklyn to see the Renegade Craft Fair.  Wow.  It was really amazing to see so many talented crafters.  I walked away feeling super inspired (and super intimidated.)

Below are some photos from the day's adventures.  I wish I could have taken more photos of all the vendors' wares, but, it was way too sunny and hot.  We ended up just walking through and then searching for shade.  Despite all my best efforts at using sunscreen, I still ended up getting burned.  Ick, ick, ick.

Some Brooklynites lay sod over a closed-off street to create instant green seating for an afternoon concert

Brave souls who ventured out into the heat to enjoy lovely crafts

Love these earrings because they reminded me of friendship bracelets

Cool word art (And now I'll know the different parts of Brooklyn)

One vendor sold lovely diorama boxes with interesting images
